Texting May Cause You Health Issues Down The Road

texting fort myers dr kasterTexting has made communication an addiction.

Many of us are constantly online in one form or another, via cell phone, tablet, iPad, Kindle, laptop or even a desktop computer.  We are virtually always reachable. Gone are the days of a phone ringing busy or missing someone because they aren’t home.

Texting may make life seem faster and more connected, but it is also leading to health issues for kids and adults. This includes neck pain, finger pain, hand pain, and even back pain.

The older generation did not grow up with cell phones, tablets, or for many even computers. That meant that we spent more time outdoors playing and getting exercise. Our bodies had the proper time to develop good posture without looking down all the time with the muscles in our hands constantly in motion.

It may seem like advancement, but children today do not have that luxury of freedom. They will never know the feeling of biking across town without their parents being able to call or track them. They aren’t learning trust or responsibility and they are poising themselves in structurally odd positions for hours on end. This has a major effect on the way the body forms.

Over  200 billion text messages are sent per month in the USA alone. The average time on a smartphone per day is 80 minutes. This time only includes surfing the web and messaging it does not consider in phone calls.

75% of teenagers now have their own smartphone, sending and responding to well over 100 texts per day. Back pain can begin from bad form when seated as well as the weight of loading backpacks with multiple devices on top of books. Laptops, iPads, cell phones, and gaming devices are all common.

If you are a heavy user of technology – take a break!

  • Raise your screen to eye level rather than looking down and hunching
  • Stretch your hands and fingers periodically and take breaks
  • If you have a long email to write do it on a desktop rather than on your phone
  • Even if you work on a desk stop stand up hourly and stretch and walk around
  • Lighten your load as much as possible leaving non-needed gadgets at home for the day

Regular chiropractic adjustments can help with text related aches and pains.

What Can Blood Tests Reveal?

blood tests

blood testsBlood tests help your physician discover potential underlying health issues. It is recommended to have a blood test done yearly in order to check levels. The question most of us have is “What are they looking for?”

What a blood test can tell you

An Enzyme test may be ordered. The enzyme levels will indicate disease or damage to organs such as kidneys and liver. This test is also helpful in adjusting medication levels.

Complete Blood Count (CBC)  is the most often ordered. It will take count of the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, iron, and platelets. It is used to diagnose infection, blood disorders, inflammation and even detects anemia (iron deficiency). It will show how well your thyroid, heart, and other organs are performing and if there is an infection such as HIV/AIDS where your body is working against itself in an autoimmune response.

Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP)  This is run on the plasma in your blood. It measures electrolytes, minerals, glucose, and calcium and can detect issues like cancer, diabetes, bone disease and kidney disease.

These are all incredibly valuable tools diagnostically.  It is, however, important to note that all tests are fallible. If you get a positive for a major illness it is vital to do the test a second time to confirm before deciding on and proceeding with any form of treatment.

Nova Oculus Partners Appoints Jeffrey Gibbs as Consultant for Regulatory Affairs

Nova Oculus Partners Appoints Jeffrey Gibbs as Consultant for Regulatory Affairs

Nova Oculus Partners, LLC (NOP) announces the appointment of Jeffrey N. Gibbs as its new Consultant for Regulatory Affairs.

As a director with the Washington, D.C.-based firm Hyman, Phelps & McNamara, Mr. Gibbs has extensive experience in “FDA law,” working with the Food and Drug Administration in the areas of product approvals and enforcement actions. In recent years, his practice has focused primarily on advising companies developing medical devices, including NOP. Mr. Gibbs previously worked for the FDA as Associate General Counsel for Enforcement, where he received an Award of Merit. Earlier in his career, he was Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

In 2015 and again this year, Mr. Gibbs was named one of the “Top FDA Lawyers,” by the Washington Post. He has also twice been listed among “The Best Lawyers in America.”

Mr. Gibbs replaces Morris Waxler as Consultant for Regulatory Affairs. In the nearly two years Dr. Waxler consulted for the company, he was instrumental in helping guide NOP through the FDA regulatory application process, and preparing the company for future clinical trials of its medical devices. TEM’s Chief Operating Officer, Walter O’Rourke, praised Dr. Waxler for his contribution, but said a different approach was needed for the company to gain FDA approval to compete in the marketplace.

“To move the approval process forward, we need to partner with a firm that has more resources than a single consultant,” he said. “Mr. Gibbs’s firm has upwards of 40 FDA-specialist lawyers. Also, Hyman, Phelps & McNamara works closely with other Washington-area consultant firms in the FDA sphere. They can work together with us to help our medical devices achieve FDA approval.”

Mr. Gibbs has already assumed his duties and together with his colleagues has begun the work of formulating a plan to that will help NOP realize its goal of market commercialization.

About Nova Oculus:

Nova Oculus Partners, LLC was formed to develop, manufacture, and lease to medical professionals an electrotherapeutic medical device to treat visual disease, providing a pulsed micro-current output delivered to the retina by way of a closed eyelid. This treatment method can help mitigate the effects of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

The Nova Oculus company’s pulsed micro-current therapy represents a new, non-invasive treatment for all forms of macular degeneration. The device output signal is structured to provide a range and pattern of frequencies to stimulate the desired physiologic response at the retinal level. This low current has been shown by studies to stimulate the production of the active transport enzyme, adenosine triphosphate (“ATP”), which facilitates the movement of nutrition from the blood to the cell.

According to recent studies, this treatment improves permeability of the blood vessel membranes and cells, allows better oxygen and nutrition delivery to the cells, metabolism, and removal of by-products from the cells. Through these mechanisms, pulsed micro-current therapy improves retinal pigment epithelium (“RPE”) efficiency and in so doing may restore and/or improve retinal function.

Nova Oculus Partners Discover a Method to Treat Age-Related Macular Degeneration

A deterioration of the central vision of a patient’s eye is the cause for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Most affected are over the age of 60 years old. The good news is that Nova Oculus Partners have created a specific technology that will treat AMD.

For those who suffer with AMD, their eyes form a “black cloud” in the central vision. This makes it hard to take care of everyday tasks such as reading, watching television, working on a computer, driving a car, and texting on a phone. This breakdown of the macular in the retina can really affect a person’s quality of life. The patient’s vision progressively deteriorates over time. Colors and contrasts in objects are impacted.

The scientists behind the technology that Nova Oculus Partners has developed are a dedicated team of individuals who seek to help those regain their vision. The photoreceptors in the macula need to be healthier. This is done by improving the metabolism of the cells in the eye. By creating healthier photoreceptors, this creates the potential for the patient’s vision to improve.

Used for all types of macular degeneration, this new non-invasive, effective treatment for AMD is the future of helping patients. Nova Oculus Partners uses a BioCurrent Therapy technology that emits targeted frequencies to stimulate a response at the retinal level. Blood vessels and cells then receive an increased flow of oxygen. This allows the delivery of more nutrition to the cells.

During the one-hour procedure, a low level of electric current is applied to the eye. A special designed eye goggle is used to deliver the current. This has been shown to improve the movement of nutrition from the patient’s blood to the cells of the eye. These special goggles apply the electrical current to four places on the closed eye. The four sites consist of the upper left lid, the lower left lid, upper right lid and lower right lid. In a short period of time, 40 seconds, the electrical current is delivered effectively.

While the technology still needs to complete a regulatory approval process with the FDA, it is expected to be the future of treating patients with age-related macular degeneration. Nova Oculus Partners Mission for AMD

Nova Oculus Partners have developed and plan to manufacture a medical device to treat age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Optometrists and other medical professionals will be able to lease the device so they can treat their patients who suffer from AMD.

Over 10 million people in the United States have a form of age-related macular degeneration, according to the National Eye Institute. The Institute also indicated that more than 1 in 10 people over 70 yrs. old has some vision loss due to AMD. Nova Oculus Partners realized how many people were affected by this disease and decided to create a new technology to help them regain their lost vision. This unique technology is at the forefront of ophthalmologic science.

Age-related macular degeneration is the number one cause of legal blindness in adults over the age of 50 years. The “baby boomers” are all over this age range. As this generation ages, there will be an increased number of people in the United States with AMD. Nova Oculus Partners will be able to meet a growing population of people with macular degeneration.

The team at Nova Oculus Partners brings a variety of disciplines to the company. Michael Samuel M.D., our Medical Advisor, whom is nationally known for research, clinical work, and surgery. He was a part of a team that performed the first surgical implant of stem cells for dry macular degeneration. We are very fortunate to have him as our medical advisor. Dr. George O’Clock, Ph.D. is our Chief Science Advisor. The extensive experience that he has in technologies that successfully treats eye disease makes him the ideal advisor for this mission.

While the technology still needs to complete a regulatory approval process with the FDA, it is expected to be the future of treating patients with AMD.

The Eye Machine Review: Its Mission In Treating AMD

A Review Of The Eye Machine & Its Technology

The Eye Machine, LLC was formed in 2014 to develop and manufacture a medical device to treat macular degeneration. The goal is to lease these devices to optometrists and other medical professionals in order for them to help their patients with age-related macular degeneration.

The National Eye Institute notes that over 10 million people in the United States have a form of age-related macular degeneration. Also, they indicate that more than 1 in 10 people over the age of 70 have experienced some vision loss to the disease. With this many people suffering from loss of vision, The Eye Machine, LLC needed to step forward and take a stance to help the movement toward a solution. Our unique technology is at the forefront of ophthalmologic science.

Unfortunately, age-related macular degeneration is the number one cause of legal blindness in adults over the age of 50 years. As the “baby boomers” age, there will be an increase the number of people with AMD. By honing our new technology, we will meet a growing population of people with macular degeneration.

What Is AMD?

AMD is a breakdown of the macula in the retina. A “black cloud” forms in the patient’s central vision, making it difficult to perform everyday activities such as driving, reading, watching television, and working on a computer. This eye disease progressively deteriorates the patient’s vision. It can even impair their ability to see color and contrast in objects. The innovators of the technology behind The Eye Machine are dedicated to helping those who suffer with AMD regain some of their vision. By Improving the metabolism of the cells, it helps to generate healthier photoreceptors in the macula. This creates the potential for the improvement of the patient’s vision.

How Does It Work?

This effective, non-invasive treatment for AMD is revolutionary and is used for all forms of macular degeneration. The technology uses BioCurrent Therapy which emits targeted frequencies to stimulate a response at the retinal level. By doing this, the cells and blood vessels receive a better oxygen flow. This also allows more nutrition to be delivered to the cells.

The electrotherapy treatment delivers a low level of electric current to the eye. Each one-hour procedure, which incorporates a special type of goggle to deliver the current, has been shown by studies to improve movement of nutrition from the blood to the cells. These special goggles work with a generator station to deliver micro current in a patented waveform to four places on the closed eye lid. The four sites consist of the upper left lid, the lower left lid, upper right lid and lower right lid. Each area takes 40 seconds to deliver the electric current effectively.

While the technology still needs to complete a regulatory approval process with the FDA, it is expected to be the future of treating patients with AMD
